Buttonwood Grove Winery was founded in 2004, and purchased in 2014 by its current owners, Dave and Melissa Pittard.  Natives of nearby Skaneateles, the young couple was living in the NYC metro area and wanted to return to their Finger Lakes roots with their new baby.  As part of the Beak and Skiff family of apple farmers, Dave had grown up working in the orchards alongside his father and grandfather, and his agricultural knowledge was easily transferred to grape growing when the opportunity arose to purchase Buttonwood Grove. 

Since the Pittard’s acquisition of the property, many major changes have been made, including the addition of a production facility, tripling the vineyard acreage, and many tasting room renovations.  A focus on handcrafted artisan wines produced from estate vineyards resulted in winning the 2017 Governor’s Cup recognizing New York State’s finest wine.  This accolade, the highest in the state, was awarded to their 2016 Riesling, from the first full vintage produced under their ownership.  Located in Romulus on Cayuga Lake, Buttonwood Grove currently produces a wide array of classic old-world style wines, including Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Gewürztraminer, and Sauvignon Blanc.

Three years of barrel aging - a true reserve! Estate grown, limited production - only 94 cases produced.

Produced from our oldest vines, this estate-grown semi-dry Riesling has a perfect balance of citrus and mineral flavors.

A delightfully sparkling version of Gewürztraminer!

The 2020 Pinot Noir was hand harvested from our Big Hollow Block vineyard in September 2020, then aged in French oak barrels for over a year.  It exhibits ripe cherry and cedar on the nose with a velvety palate and long finish. This elegant, lighter red wine is perfect with salmon or chicken, charcuterie, and BBQ.  

This classic European-style dry red was harvested from our Riemer Block vineyard in October 2020, then aged in French oak barrels for 18 months.  Starting with subtle cassis and vanilla aromas, it evolves into rich red plum and currant notes and a vibrant black pepper finish.  Medium-bodied with well-defined tannins, it pairs well with beef and mushroom dishes.   

Blaufrankisch Blend

Plum and tobacco on the nose leads to a robust palate with a peppery finish. A blend of Lemberger, Arendell,  Corot Noir, and  Cabernet Franc, this wine was handcrafted from a portion of grapes sourced from the Finger Lakes Grape Program - Cornell Cooperative Extension.  

Whole berry maceration gives this wine bright, tart cherry and blackberry characteristics with hints of vanilla and black pepper. Medium-bodied with soft tannins, this wine is our first single varietal from our Waterfall Block vineyard. This wine is only available to our wine club members. 

An exciting style of Sauvignon Blanc, lightly barrel aged with characteristics of apple, lemon curd with subtle hints of vanilla and spice.
