Grindstone Island Winery

A brief history

Located on Grindstone Island in the heart of New York State’s picturesque Thousand Islands, we are a small farm winery that produces handcrafted Chardonnay, Riesling, Prairie Star, Baco Noir (filtered and unfiltered), Baco Rose, and Tawny Red wines. Located on the St. Lawrence River, midway between the United States and Canadian border, Grindstone Island maintains cool temperate conditions for growing grapes.

Since 2011, we have planted over 2,000 vines on our 3 ½ acre hillside winery. Our first production in 2014 yielded 225 cases and each year we have increased production. Our 2017 production yielded 450 cases. The 2018 production yielded 710 cases of wines.

Our wines are barrel-aged for 1-3 years in American and French oak barrels prior to being bottle aged for an additional 2-3 months before each release.

Grindstone Island Winery’s commitment to exceptional wine-making focuses on sustainable growing practices. We nurture healthy vines and grapes, conserve natural resources, and foster relationships with members of our River community.
