Nose

Subtle cassis and vanilla aromas.

Palate

Well-defined tannins and an elegant minerality mark this as a perfect example of cool-climate red wines. Slightly heavier in body than our Cabernet Franc, it has lingering notes of subtle dark cherry with a vibrant spiciness, which evolve into rich red plum and currant notes with a black pepper finish.

Growing Conditions

The 2020 growing season was considered excellent for cool-climate varietals in the Finger Lakes. While spring bud-break was somewhat delayed by cool temperatures, the summer was hot and sunny, contributing to an early harvest. In conjunction with sunny, dry days and cool nights throughout the fall, the wines produced from these growing conditions exhibit good acidity and structure along with enhanced flavors and complexity.

Harvest

This estate grown classic old-world style red was hand harvested from our Riemer Block vineyard during the premium 2020 growing season.

Bottling

Bottled June 29, 2022

Aging

Following a week of fermentation on the skins, this wine was pressed off and barreled in French oak, using 15% new barrels, where it remained for 18 months.

Appearance

In contrast to warm climate Cabernets, this cool climate red exhibits medium body and color.

Food Pairing

We recommend pairing it with barbecued meats, Asian cuisine, and sharp cheeses. Medium bodied with supple tannins, it also pairs well with beef and mushroom dishes.
