Harvest

A mild winter lead into a mild and beautifully warm spring. There was a great fruit set and we were prepared for a large crop this season. However, summer and fall were dominated by what seemed like near-constant rainfall and gray skies. With the larger crop and disease pressure from humid conditions, this made for an extremely extended growing season. Getting sugar and acid in balance with ripe character was difficult. However, the whites came in with flinty minerality, high acidity  and interesting flavors. The reds were an even bigger surprise. Racy but with tempered acidity, silky delicate tannins, cedar and herbaceous notes without being vegetal. While they might not have the showy intensity of 2020, they are graceful and poignant. 2021 reds will be wines to watch as they develop over coming years.
