Hermann J. Wiemer VineyardRiesling Dry

The Riesling Dry is our signature wine. Sourced from each of our three distinct vineyard sites, it epitomizes Riesling's dynamic range. Layers of citrus, stone, and tropical fruit are underpinned by taut acidities and a clean mineral finish.

The HJW Vineyard is where it all began. On a bench of land seven hundred feet above Seneca Lake, Hermann planted the estate's first Riesling vines in 1977. We spotlight this block each vintage in the limited-release Riesling HJW Vineyard. The site's cooler mesoclimate shows through with racy acidity underpinned by a dense mineral backbone.

This wine is fresh and exuberant in nature and is dry with an almost playful effervescence. This wine highlights our commitment to ecosystem health and comprehensive viticulture practices. We adhere to unique farming methods that focus not solely on our vineyards but on the totality of our farm, promoting biodiversity in adjacent fields, forests, and meadows, while utilizing cover crops, beneficials, and homeopathic teas and preparations. On the biodynamic calendar, there are four kinds of days: root days, flower days, fruit days, and leaf days. Each of these days has certain tasks associated with it; fruit days are meant for harvesting, leaf days for watering, root days for pruning. On flower days, the vineyard is left alone to rest - so we suggest resting and enjoying this delicious riesling!

Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard Dry Gewürztraminer Bottle Preview
Hermann J. Wiemer VineyardDry Gewürztraminer

This wine draws from a 1967 plot in our Josef Vineyard, one of the oldest plantings of vinifera in the region, which produces grapes with exceptional depth and maturity. Much like Riesling, Gewürztraminer is a strain that is ideally placed in the cool climate of the Finger Lakes. Vivid, flowery aromas, accompanied by hints of fruit and spice showcase the distinctive characteristics of the varietal. Limited skin contact during fermentation fully accentuates these traits while producing a lean and focused style. A vigorous play of fruit and spice leads into a long, zesty finish, a perfect accompaniment to earthy or spicy food.

Cabernet Franc is ideally suited to the long falls of the Finger Lakes. Extended hang time in our riper sites builds structure and flavor complexity, evidenced in the generous raspberry and plum aroma on our medium-bodied Cabernet Franc. On the palate it combines bramble fruit, soft tannins, and a black pepper finish.

Sourced from a parcel at our HJW Vineyard, this wine highlights our commitment to ecosystem health and comprehensive viticulture practices. We adhere to unique farming methods that focus not solely on our vineyards but on the totality of our farm, promoting biodiversity in adjacent fields, forests, and meadows, while utilizing cover crops, beneficials, and homeopathic teas and preparations. Our goal is to continue the expansion of these practices and create wines that reflect the intrinsic compatibility of vineyards and their surroundings.
