Curry Creek Vineyards is managed to allow for maximum canopy area and minimal spraying. The fruiting zone is kept open to reduce disease pressure while the trellising reaches quite high for more leaf area and better ripening of the fickle Gewurztraminer grapes.
2015 will primarily be remembered for what preceded the growing season, an unbelievably brutal winter featuring the coldest month ever recorded in the Finger Lakes. As a result, yields were significantly down in a growing season that held much promise. Heavier than average rains in June required careful attention in the vineyard to manage botrytis and mildew, but the remainder of the growing season until the harvest rain events was dry and even in temperature.
The fruit was destemmed and lightly crushed for an overnight cold soak before being sent to press. The juice was moved into several barriques and inoculated with Vin13. The wine was sulfured when the barriques had reached full dryness and then allowed to age on full lees for 8 months prior to bottling.
