Growing Conditions

A very well managed vineyard on a gentle slope that features several blocks of Cabernet Franc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Lemberger. Spur pruned vines as of 2014.

Harvest

A warm harvest that was punctuated by several bouts of heavy rain, as much of the late summer had also been. Disease pressure wasn’t as prevalent as a vintage such as 2018, although careful work in the vineyards to drop fruit was crucial. The larger concern was excess water resulting in dilute flavors, a fate our winemaking team avoided through carefully selecting pick dates, exacting fruit quality, and thoughtful cellar decisions to express the fullness of the grape.

Winemaking

The fruit was destemmed and lightly crushed for an active 3 day cold soak before being pressed. The wine was inoculated with an equal mix of Vin 13, Rhone 4600, and GRE yeast. A fast and cool fermentation - ranging between 50F and 52F - heightened aromatics brought the wine to complete dryness over the course of a month.
